Self defence is as relevant today in our modern cities, as it was ancient times. Whilst most of us don't have to worry about self defence from marauding wild animals, it can sometimes be frightening to watch the news or read the paper and see the latest attack or attempted abduction, especially when it is near where we work or live.

self defenceSelf defence is not about living in fear, it's being prepared for the unexpected. If you drive a car you carry a spare tyre so that if you get a flat you're prepared, you hope you'll never need it, but it's nice to know it's there if you do.

On the mental and emotional side, self defence also teaches us confidence, focus, calmness, stress management (you don't want to panic if you're defending yourself), self discipline and determination. These are things that everyone can use and benefit from in their everyday life in the office, at school, home, or social events.

One of the best things about self defence training, is that it can be readily used in our everyday lives. That doesn't mean we're kicking or punching people every day of course, but there are skills that you learn as part of self defence that you can.
