A Glimpse of Taekwondo History
Taekwondo originated in Korea in around 50BC. The word ‘Tae’ means ‘to kick’, ‘Kwon’ means ‘to punch’ and ‘Do’ refers to ‘ a method’. Taekwondo is actually a method of unarmed combat for self-defence which involves applying various techniques by using one’s hands and feet. Over the years, various influences from established martial art forms like Karate, Kung-fu and a host of native techniques also began to reflect in Taekwondo.
Today, Taekwondo is learned mainly for knowledge in self-defence but in ancient times, it was considered to be a way to train both the mind and the body. It was not unusual for students to spend a lifetime mastering the various techniques and then for them to pass on their knowledge to new students.
Fortunately, if you are keen to learn Taekwondo from the experts, you don’t have to pack your bags and book a flight. Brisbane Taekwondo Centre (BTC) has the most comprehensive martial arts training program, right here in Brisbane.

BTC has a really great atmosphere. The facilities are the best I've seen in a martial arts centre. The training itself is great.
